Terminal 21 is one of Bangkok’s newer modern shopping malls, even though it is over 10 years old at this point.  It’s unique concept and interior design make it a fun place to visit if only to window shop and have a look around.  There are 10 floors and hundreds of shops as well as a movie theater, grocery store, and food hall.

The name Terminal 21 comes from a combination of the concept and the location of their first mall.  The theme is that of an airport, where each floor in the mall is a different destination from around the world.

As you get off the escalator on each floor there are arrival signs for the city or country you are visiting. The decorations are based on that of a particular country or location.  There are floors for Japan, the U.K., Paris, Istanbul, and many others.  The 4th floor is based on San Francisco and has a model of the Golden Gate Bridge spanning across the atrium.

The 21 in the name comes from the location of the first mall in Asok Montri Road in Bangkok.  Asok Montri is also known as Soi Sukhumvit 21 road.  Additional Terminal 21 malls have been opened in two other cities in Thailand, Korat and Pattaya.

In addition to the shopping and unique design, Terminal 21 has the distinction of having the longest escalators in Thailand, up to over 100 feet long.

What To Expect At The Terminal 21 Bangkok Mall

Terminal 21 is easy to get to, located on the BTS SkyTrain line at the Asok station.  You can walk out of the station and right into the mall from the sky walk.

It’s a great place to do a little shopping.  There are so many shops to choose from that it’s difficult to run out of options.  They have familiar store brands from around the world as well as local Thai stores.

It’s also a great spot to grab a meal.  The 4th and 5th floor is home to dozens of restaurants. From western fare like Tony Roma’s to Asian restaurants like Fuji and MK Restaurants.  There are also plenty of small local restaurants serving up some delicious food.

Head to the 5th floor and the Pier 21 food court if you want a wide choice of tasty options at cheap prices.

The top floor is decorated as Hollywood, complete with a giant Grammy Award statue next to the escalator as you make your way up.  Being it’s Hollywood, it makes sense that this floor is home to the SF Cineplex movie theater.  It’s also home to the technology stores.  If you need a SIM or a new cell phone you can find it here.

The Terminal 21 in Bangkok is a wonderful mall appreciated by locals and tourists alike.  Whether you need to do some shopping, want to get some food, or see a movie, you’ll find it at Terminal 21.
